Slate-Lite combines a 100% natural stone surface with an exceptionally thin and lightweight material structure. This allows real stone to be used more efficiently, transported with less weight and, in many renovation projects, installed directly over existing surfaces.

More Stone Surface from Less Material

To produce Slate-Lite, only a very thin layer of natural stone is removed from a solid stone block and bonded to a stabilising backing material.

Depending on the type of stone, the amount of stone required for one conventional stone slab approximately 2 cm thick can be used to produce around 200 to 300 Slate-Lite veneer sheets.

This allows the natural resource of stone to be used considerably more efficiently.

Less Weight Means Less Transport Impact

Depending on the product version, Slate-Lite weighs only around 1.5 to 2.8 kg per square metre. Solid stone slabs can weigh many times more for the same surface area.

Thanks to its low weight, a single shipment can transport a significantly larger surface area. This reduces the required freight capacity and transport-related emissions per square metre.

A published sample calculation for a sea journey of approximately 7,500 km between India and Germany compares Slate-Lite with a 2 cm thick granite slab:

  • Slate-Lite: approximately 10,637 m² per container
  • 2 cm granite slab: approximately 441 m² per container
  • Transport-related CO₂ reduction: approximately 96% per transported square metre

Tested for Very Low Emissions

For materials used in homes and interior spaces, their effect on indoor air quality is important alongside their appearance and design.

Slate-Lite has been tested for emissions of volatile organic compounds, known as VOCs, and awarded emission class A+. A+ is the highest rating within the French VOC classification system and identifies products with very low emissions into indoor air.

Slate-Lite therefore provides a very low-emission surface for residential and commercial interiors.

Renovate Instead of Unnecessarily Removing

When the substrate is suitable and properly prepared, Slate-Lite can often be installed directly over existing surfaces such as tiles, furniture panels or wall coverings.

In many renovation projects, existing materials therefore do not need to be completely removed. This can:

  • reduce demolition work,
  • produce less construction waste,
  • shorten renovation times and
  • extend the useful life of existing building components.

Responsibility in Manufacturing

The extraction of the thin stone layers differs from the conventional processing of solid stone slabs. The surface is removed from the stone block layer by layer.

Water-based processes are used during cutting and sanding. This binds the resulting dust immediately and reduces dust exposure during production.

Together with PLANT-MY-TREE®, Slate-Lite supports reforestation projects in Germany. These long-term planting projects are intended to create new forest areas and make an active contribution to protecting nature and the climate.

Real stone remains a natural resource. We therefore do not claim that Slate-Lite is completely environmentally neutral.

Our goal is to make as much real stone surface as possible available using as little stone material and transport weight as possible while continuously improving our products, packaging and operational processes.
