What is thin stone or stone veneer?

Thin stone – also called stone veneer or thin slate – is an ultra-thin layer of genuine natural stone that is extracted directly from solid blocks of stone. Unlike traditional slate tiles, the stone is not split with a hammer, chisel, or compressed air. Instead, the natural stone surface is peeled from the block using a special process and a backing material. This process creates wafer-thin sheets of genuine stone with a thickness of only about 1.5 mm. Despite their light weight, the natural look, structure, and feel of the solid stone are fully preserved.

What sizes are Slate-Lite?

Our thin stone veneers are available in many different sizes, depending on the installation pattern and the room effect you would like to achieve.Our standard sizes are:S // 30 x 60 cm / approx. 11 13/16 x 23 5/8 in (approx. 0.18 m² / 1.94 sq ft *)M // 122 x 61 cm / approx. 48 x 24 in(approx. 0.74 m² / 7.97 sq ft)L // 240 x 120 cm / approx. 94 1/2 x 47 1/4 in (approx. 2.88 m² / 31.00 sq ft)XL // 280 x 120 cm / approx. 110 1/4 x 47 1/4 in (approx. 3.36 m² / 36.17 sq ft)Thanks to their easy workability, our stone veneers can of course also be cut to any custom size with millimetre precision.Should you prefer not to carry out cuts and adjustments yourself, you can also have your chosen decor produced directly in our shop to your exact custom size, down to the millimetre, or order a material cut via our Workbox services.Please contact us if you require even larger formats. Many decors can be produced in significantly larger sizes.*) The 30 x 60 cm / approx. 11 13/16 x 23 5/8 in format is currently available in the Stick&GO! version with self-adhesive backing film in selected decors.

How can I process Slate-Lite stone veneers?

The basic processing of Slate-Lite was done in four simple steps:1) Cut Slate-Lite to size (if necessary)2) Depending on the application location, impregnate or seal.3) Apply suitable adhesive to the entire surface of the wall or the back of the stone sheet.4) Position Slate-Lite at the desired location and press down.Detailed processing instructions can be found in our shop under the "Processing" section and in our data sheets.We also offer regular training courses where you can learn how to work with our stone veneers.

Slate-Lite in custom dimensions

You can also order Slate-Lite directly from our shop in your individual desired dimensions - this eliminates the need for cutting on site and allows you to start processing immediately. Please note the extended delivery time , as your decorations will then be manufactured and shipped specifically according to your specifications.

Can I press Slate-Lite onto a carrier material?

Can Slate-Lite be pressed or laminated onto substrate boards? Yes, Slate-Lite can be pressed or laminated very well onto different substrate materials. Typical carriers include, for example: MDF HDF chipboard plywood Multiplex HPL carrier AluDibond or aluminum composite panels other suitable furniture carriers The following have proven particularly effective: Vacuum press Clock press For indexing presses, we recommend using a soft protective insert to protect the surface or the press plates. Depending on the application, other industrial processing methods are also possible. Important for clean processing is: a level surface a stable support plate a clean and low-stress design Since different materials react differently to temperature and humidity, we recommend using a counterweight depending on the construction, for example: Backing paper approx. 120 g/m² or a corresponding HPL counterweight or the same material, e.g., Slate-Lite This can reduce potential stresses or deformations of the entire plate structure.
